Why add an Alexander Hamawi to your collection?
Alexander’s Contemporary Realism oil paintings have gained him scholarships, prizes and corporate commissions, as well as editorial and exhibitions. His work is enjoyed worldwide by his collectors for its authentic vibrant simplicity.
About Alexander’s Work
Alex’s art is a result of his Global background. Alex spent the formative years of his life in Kenya, before moving to London to attend the Slade School of Art and doing an MA at the Royal Academy school, but he now lives and works in Crete. This eclectic mix permeates Alexander’s outlook and approach to his work. He likes to juxtapose the Natural with the Geometric, blending organic shapes with urban lines to create uniquely modern still life.
Alex uses oil paint on canvas to achieve a crisp colour definition in his work. It is a medium he describes as ‘truthful and invaluable to express and reveal the emotional qualities found in various subjects.’ His subject matter ranges from Still Life, underwater aquatic scenes, to landscapes. In all genres the viewpoints and perspective are key to the paintings, with light sources manipulated to create the desired atmosphere and emotional response.
Styling Ideas
Alexander’s clean and graphic artwork is complementary in a colourful interior, and equally adds drama to more neutral home backdrops. His large artworks are designed to make an impact on their space, through the artist’s intuitive balancing of geometric shapes with more fluid and expressive brushstrokes. His art style is inspired by realism and surrealism, yet unique in its execution, and makes for a pleasing yet modern collection.
About The Artist
Growing up in Kenya sparked Alexander’s love of art and use of light. He then moved to London, attending it’s famous art schools before residing in Crete where he now exhibits and paints in it’s capital, Chania.
